Governor General of Canada visits NSD


On Wednsday, November 29, 1995, the Newfoundland School for the Deaf was honored by a visit by Their Excellencies the Right Honourable RomÈo LeBlanc, P.C., C.C., C.M.M., C.D. Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Diana Fowler LeBlanc, C.C.

His Excellency is pictured, on the left, signing the Guest Book at NSD.

 

During the visit, Their Excellencies visited classrooms, the Computer Lab, the Industrial Arts classroom and work areas, and the theatre. While in the theatre Their Excellencies were given a demonstration of the drama work done at the school and had an opportunity to make a few remarks to the student body and faculty.

Above (left) Their Excellencies and Mr. Harkins, Principal, engage in discussion as they tour the school. Their Excellencies also met (above center) a lively group of Elementary students in Mrs. Williams class and are shown being intoduced to a group of Junior High students (above right) by Mrs. Simmons in the Computer Lab.



Their Excellencies get a briefing on the World Wide Web (above left), including a viewing of the Web pages developed at NSD about the Governor General. Mrs. Williams (above right) gives an animated explanation of the joys of an Elementary teacher at NSD.



His Excellency admires the equipment in the Industrial Arts shop area (above left). Her Excellency confided that he was probably window shopping for his own very extensive workshop. Terri Lynn Harris presents the Governor General with her art work, which was selected as a memento for Their Excellencies of their visit to NSD.
